This is the News Analysis segment of the Voice of Biafra International (VOBI) broadcasts

For November 7, 2008

You have heard the news; now, the analysis…

Fellow Biafrans:

The world—the entire Planet—has come alive, woken up and moved by the fact of Barack Obama’s winning of the Presidential election in the USA., the first Black man to earn such a hitherto impossible honor. In this august and moving event, President-elect of the USA, Mr. Obama, proved to and reminded all, that everything and anything is possible and achievable in the US if you believe and work for it. As we weep tears of joy and astonishment in celebration of this historic occurrence, we have to capture the lesson and the Spirit of the moment to declare to unbelievers that the actualization of Biafra is not just possible, but a reality which we shall accomplish and witness.

O nweghi onye turu anya na ndi America nwere ike i me Onye Ojii onye isi America. Mgbe udi ihe di otua nwere ike i me, mara kwa unu—unu a tughila egwu—na nweta Biafra ga e meriri

Forty years ago, while we were becoming roiled in the beginning phases of Biafra actualization on the African continent, Martin Luther King Jr., leading and dying in the struggle for the emancipation of Blacks in America, foresaw and foretold this present moment, as declared in his timeless speech, “I Have a Dream...” Obama’s election today as the next President of the US by the US citizens is a tangible fulfillment of this dream, a dream that otherwise seemed impossible for the foreseeable centuries and indeed, for the foreseeable future. Believe! We ask you to believe in the dream that Biafra will come to be: Biafra shall come to be.

Nwee nu unu okwukwe!: Biafra ga a di; Biafra a diwo.

Everyone in the US (as well as the entire world) was inspired by Obama’s speeches as he started this impossible run. But, it was the younger generation of Americans which was most stirred to wake up from its apathy by the message of Obama. Yes, the American Youth woke up and decided to act, using the legal and civil avenue open to it—the US elections and associated processes—in joining Obama to change America. Thus, the youth of America chanted, “Yes, We can!” to echo Obama’s pragmatic philosophy and drive; and on November 4th 2008, wept. As tears ran down their cheeks, they now sang, “Yes, we have!” Obama had—unbelievably—won, because of them. We urge our Biafra Youth to do the same for Biafra actualization: say with us, “’Yes, we can!’, Biafra” and act—do your part, with whatever is available to you, so we may all weep in the joy of the incredible success of Biafra’s actualization.

“Yes, We Can”—“Anyi nwere ike”—wu okwu ahu. Nke mere anyi ji zi a gwa ndi Youth Biafra: mara unu na “Anyi nwere ike”—“Yes, we can” Mee unu ihe ga e nye anyi Biafra ugbua, ka anya-mmiri-akwa nke obi-uto gbaa kwa nu anyi.

It is often said, “Youth is wasted on the youth...” Well, no longer: not in America, not this time around. Not in Obama’s America, not in Obama’s time. The American Youth proved that Youth is alive, a mover-and-shaker, an over-achieving force which never misses its target, which brings home the prize. Biafra Youth: are you listening?

Wake up from slumber and apathy, oh Youth of Biafra! Awake from your coma, People of Biafra! Your present is destroyed, your past was agony; the future does not exist for you in Nigeria. Unless you, our Youth, the most and worst impacted, do something about your future—our future—now. Borrow a leaf from your US age-mates, your US youth-peers. Act, like they did. What the American youth did for their country, you can do for yours, you can do for Biafra. Actualize Biafra—now.

Umu Youth America e mee la ihe i mezi obodo America: umu Youth Biafra, kedu mgbe unu ga e me nke unu, nke anyi, i mezi Biafra? Kedu mgbe unu ga e teta na urha, bilie, ga ruo oru anyi i nweta Biafra, nwetara anyi Biafra? Ee: “Anyi nwere ike,” “Yes, we can,” i nweta Biafra; ka anyi nweta Biafra.

We salute US President-elect, Barack Obama, and the American Youth and the entire American people for their efforts, for their example, for re-establishing the path of example and path of leadership for the world. We want to say the same of our Biafran Youth and our Biafran people: let us emulate the acts and ways of the Americans in this particular inspiring event, that we may have our Biafra actualized in no distant future.

Below is a list of our beloved brethren-MASSOB members still in Nigeria’s jails: there is no rest for us until we obtain their total release.
