This is the News Analysis segment of the Voice of Biafra International (VOBI) broadcasts
For October 3, 2008
You have heard the news; now, the analysis…
Fellow Biafrans:
We will ignore October 1, a day customarily billed for so-called celebration of Nigeria’s Independence. We ignore it because any system or anyone that does not understand a time to mourn as different from a time to celebrate, and does not know the difference between slavery and Independence, deserves to be ignored. There is nothing to celebrate for Nigeria, and certainly no independence from the pernicious, rapacious and parasitic forces that drive Nigeria.
Rather, what we want to bring to your attention today concerns the recent “mandate,” as reported by some Nigerian newspapers, by Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council (FEC), to Umaru Yar’Adua, their president, to meet with the governors from Niger Delta and South-East “over the activities of militants and MASSOB…”:
“At its first meeting since the inauguration of the present government, the council expressed concern over the activities of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB)…The council said the president should meet with the governors to discuss the activities of the movement locally and internationally.”
Before we proceed, let us state for the sake of clarity, so there will be no room for any doubt:
The people of the Bight of Biafra region of [West] Africa (“Bight of Biafra” being a formal and recognized designation which both historically and geographically precedes “Nigeria” by at least 2 centuries), which includes the former Eastern Region of Nigeria (a subset of which is the presently referenced “South-East”), desire, are firmly committed to, and shall obtain, their own Sovereign and Independent Nation called Biafra. Our ongoing efforts to accomplish this goal have recently been supported by the Self Determination Resolution of the UN [A/61/295] of September 12 /13 2007, which recognizes the Right of Ethnic Nations to Self Determination. Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), as the name implies, is the people’s action-front for Biafra actualization; MASSOB is a fully committed movement which operates on a non-violent principle with just one mandated goal: the actualization of Sovereign Biafra. Only one result is expected of MASSOB: successful actualization of Biafra.
The “South-East governors” must not let go of this reality in any of their discussions or proceedings, whether with Yar’Adua / Nigeria, or otherwise.
We want to go on record at this time regarding this issue so there will be no doubt as to where we stand and what the people want. In the past, the so-called leaders of the so-called South-East have failed to represent the people’s interests, and have actually sold out our people in sheer sycophancy while succumbing to intimidation by Northern Nigeria-owners of what they still call Nigeria. They have not listened to counsel from the collective mouth of our people, nor have they been sensitive to the suffering and struggling of our people brought on us by Nigeria. For example, this group allowed a flawed Census clearly designed to cheat our people to proceed, against our objections, and even after they, themselves, had understood the open and clear intent of deception by Nigeria. The same group refused to listen to our people when the group attended Obasanjo’s Third Term Bid-jamboree under the dishonest cover-name of a “National Political Reform Conference” exercise; therein, they gave in to Obasanjo’s demands, not even raising indignation about, and not fazed by, the fact that Obasanjo’s administration introduced a policy item there which would have banned Igbo as one of the official languages of Nigeria.
As a matter of fact, we will use that “Conference” as an example of the usual conduct of this group. While efulefu Joe Irukwu “led” fellow efulefu yes-men of Igbo to that Obasanjo’s so-called “National Political Reform Conference,” there to behave as docile lamb and blind mice, the Niger Delta delegation, under strict instructions from their people, showing great discipline and great courage, refused to budge when their demands—just demands, by the way—were not met. That singular act of “sticking with the program” by the Niger Delta people and their delegation stopped Obasanjo cold in his tracks, reversed Obasanjo’s ill-gotten political fortunes, and torpedoed a manipulative conference designed to continue the tyranny of Obasanjo and the North over, and parasitism on, the rest of Nigeria. There is just one recipe for the success of the Niger Delta delegation and people here: 1) Listen to the people and know what they want, 2) Present and represent what the people want; 3) Do not accept anything less or anything else than what the people want and have instructed; and as for the Delegation…, 4) Do not come home if you deviate from the people’s instructions.
By contrast, while the Niger Delta acted firm based on a conviction of Moral Right and succeeded, the North acted with usual and customary intimidation, predatory tactics they have combined with bullying and threats to force the rest of Nigeria into submission without challenge, getting what they want out of Nigeria, successfully—and that’s everything that their hearts so desire—all the time. What a contrast! But for the Niger Delta stance this time around, the North would have walked away from Obasanjo’s fraud with everything they want, as usual. In the light of this, consider the “South-East” so-called delegation. It is only the so-called South-East, individually selfish; self-proclaimed “intelligent” to the point of stupidity; blinded by their self-styled “intelligence” so much as not to recognize or at least acknowledge the ongoing war against them; totally ignorant of the drawn battle-lines, in spite of being constantly mown down by the enemy; moronically playing, losing, and still wanting to play and lose in the same game wherein they are not even interested in knowing the rules thereof; and worst of all, presenting and utilizing with “great pride,” as their only tool, SYCOPHANCY—yes, only the so-called South-East!
It is within this context that we call on the people of Biafra to tell those “governors” and other so-called leaders of Igbo meeting with Yar’Adua and his illegitimate administration, for the purposes of the aforementioned FEC “mandate,” that,
1) We understand that out of sheer sycophancy and for individual self-survival purposes of retaining their offices (which we never had the opportunity to elect them into in the first place), they may say things representing strictly their own personal style and interest, things which they have figured Yar’Adua and Nigeria want to hear; but.
2) They must differentiate that from, and tell Yar’Adua and Nigeria of, the sole interest of our people, which represents the only hope keeping us alive today, which is
3) Self Determination for our people leading to Biafra actualization; and that
4) MASSOB, carrying out the people’s Self Determination agenda as such, and with the full support of the people, is to accomplish this using a non-violent process.
We also hereby relay the same message directly to Nigeria: We pursue Self Determination, which is clearly, legally and legitimately our prerogative, for our people, leading to Biafra Actualization; MASSOB, a non-violent organization, is our choice as the lead-organization for this enterprise, and has our mandate.
We also hereby warn the “governors” and anyone else concerned with this matter. In the past, to appease their insatiable Nigerian slave-masters, especially at times like this, so-called governors have been responsible for directly or indirectly persecuting, dispossessing, injuring, killing, torturing or imprisoning MASSOB members and our Youth working for Biafra actualization. This cannot happen anymore: it won’t be tolerated. Know that: For as long as the Sun rises in the East and sets in the West, we hold all who have the blood and or sweat of MASSOBians and other Biafrans on their hands, not just responsible, but, also, ACCOUNTABLE for such crimes. And, account for these crimes they will.
Where are the MASSOB members, including Uchenna Madu, the Information Director of MASSOB, who have allegedly been finally granted bail by the Nigerian courts? And the other jailed MASSOB members not mentioned in such reports? Until we actually see these our dear brothers, our thoughts remain with them, and we redouble our efforts to effect their unconditional release from Nigeria’s Gulags.
Biafra alive! Because it is God Who makes it so.
That’s the News Analysis for the week. Thank you.
