This is the News Analysis segment of the Voice of Biafra International (VOBI) broadcasts
For November 16, 2007
You have heard the news; now, the analysis…
Fellow Biafrans:
Ralph Uwazurike, the leader of MASSOB, is leading our people and teaching us all by example: by his humility, humbleness, and unwavering determination to stay the course of non-violence and to maintain his Will for Biafra actualization. Uwazurike, who has also now earned the right to be called a real, true Igbo Leader and a quintessential Biafra Leader, reported to the local Nigeria Police Station as stipulated in the FURLOUGH conditions that granted him insulting temporary reprieve from unjust imprisonment by Nigeria. In doing so, he was basically telling Nigeria:
“…you, Nigeria, can put me and my MASSOB brethren in jail, you can stipulate that I report to the police every single minute, you can even kill me: yes—you can do all that and more—and yes, I stick to Biafra / Biafra actualization, always…”
It is not for nothing that we have urged you several times: “Have in you this Mind that is in Uwazurike”: cultivate Uwazurike’s Will! Uwazurike’s unshakeable Will for Biafra and Biafra actualization is what it takes to get us all there. If anyone of you has problems doing what Uwazurike is doing, let us remind you that Biafra / Biafra actualization is a Moral Right: we offend neither God nor decent Humanity by seeking our Freedom and Liberty from Nigeria that is determined to kill us—body and spirit, Nigeria that goes out of its way to humiliate us every single day. In fact, it is Morally wrong for us to accommodate Evil—Evil which is busy eating us alive; Evil Nigeria. If anyone has problems with Strong Will for Biafra / Biafra actualization, let us remind you that Self Determination is an accepted Universal Political and Human Right. We do not offend the International Community of Humans by seeking our own well-deserved Sovereignty and Independence; if anything, we disappoint the entire World by allowing ourselves to be so mistreated and abused by Nigeria and then, doing nothing about it. We are letting the Human Race down when we completely understand that we are enslaved, and yet, we refuse to pursue opportunities to redeem ourselves. We have a Duty to have an unshakeable Will for Biafra / Biafra actualization and make that Will bear the desired fruit. Thanks to Uwazurike for demonstrating this.
Ralph Uwazurike’s principled non-violence modus operandus on which he founded MASSOB and which is the only operational motto for MASSOB is elevating him to the status of a true Leader of Africa. Time and again, he demonstrates the power of non-violence by his actions; but it is his complete willingness to personally pay the price for non-violence which brings out the real and hidden power of non-violence. Such a price has been costly in terms of lives of MASSOB members lost, injured, maimed and imprisoned unjustly by Nigeria which thus far has delighted in brutalizing unarmed and non-violent Uwazurike and members of MASSOB and other peoples of Biafra. Today, even some members of the Nigeria Police, the active lethal whip of Nigeria used against MASSOB and Uwazurike and against Biafrans, have begun to reflect on their own personal acts of brutality against men and women who cause them no harm and do not retaliate against them: against men and women oblivious to the viciousness of the Nigeria Police, and pursuing, undeterred and without relent, their goal of Biafra and Biafra actualization. Tomorrow, Africa will learn from Uwazurike and MASSOB to solve its similar and other problems with Justice delivered through principled non-violence.
So moved by Uwazurike and MASSOB’s recent non-violent actions and the non-violent but supportive and determined actions of our peoples recently was a leading Nigerian newspaper which, in its Editorial, is now urging the Nigerian government to remember that Self Determination is an exercisable Universal Right supported by the UN, which should not be denied any group, and which is not to be criminalized or brutalized, but should initiate a call for negotiations between the parties concerned. We are grateful to Uwazurike and MASSOB for thus bringing us this far. Nigerians learnt and borrowed non-violence civil disobedience from Uwazurike and MASSOB when Nigerians used sit-ins as a mode of protest against the government of Nigeria last year. We trust Nigerians will insist that their government, Nigeria, learn and apply non-violence and negotiations in its dealings with Uwazurike, MASSOB, and Biafra. It is hoped that Nigeria will heed the counsel and urgings of that Editorial Board which also called for the unconditional release of all MASSOB members—Uchenna Madu, other MASSOB officials, rank-and-file MASSOBians—from Nigeria’s jail, just like we have been insisting for over 2 years now. The time is now. Our appreciation to this newspaper, too, for courage, honesty and frankness in an atmosphere, Nigeria, where such are exceedingly rare.
We are also pleased by the recent actions of a certain group of “leaders” of our people in Owere, especially in Uwazurike’s hometown, who deviated from the typical sycophancy and appeasement of Nigeria, and instead, insisted that they are in full support of Uwazurike, his goals and his methods. We praise this group for finding and exercising courage, at last. We are not concerned about their plan to find and confer a suitable (and obviously well-deserved) title on Uwazurike; we are more concerned that these courageous men now go back and talk sense into their other colleagues and teach them how Nigeria really works (always against our people) and why they should start fully supporting real Igbo-Biafran leaders and pro-Biafran organizations; and start looking after their own people—the peoples of Biafra. And, should they extend such action and carry this type of talk to our masses, Hallelujah—the door into the Promised Land will have swung wide open for our peoples to rush in. That will surely mean more to us and to Uwazurike, a man who desires nothing more, nothing else, than to see Biafra actualized, even if it costs him his comfort and or his life.
Fellow Biafrans: our Chi is with us. We are making progress.
Biafra alive! Because it is God Who makes it so.
That’s the News Analysis for the week. Thank you.
