This is the News Analysis segment of the Voice of Biafra International (VOBI) broadcasts

On Bail for Ralph Uwazurike:

Having just learned that Ralph Uwazurike, the leader of MASSOB, has just been released on bail, we are delighted that he can breathe free Biafran air again. We are, though, quite furious that this is only temporary bail lasting only three months; that no other MASSOB member or official currently unjustly jailed for the same silly charges was released; and overall, that these hypocritical charges have not been dropped entirely by evil Nigeria.

We welcome Ralph Uwazurike back among the fold to continue his exemplary leadership and work on Biafra actualization through MASSOB; we welcome him back to contribute in the advances made towards Biafra actualization while he was held unjustly in prison, including the formation of the Biafra Provisional Government.

We praise Ralph Uwazurike and our other MASSOB officials and MASSOB members for their steadfastness and for not succumbing to Nigeria’s pressure and or pressure from efulefu Biafrans to disown Biafra as a condition for bail or release. We solemnly pledge to leave no stones untouched in our goal to obtain unconditional and permanent release for all of them.

For October 26, 2007

You have heard the news; now, the analysis…

Fellow Biafrans:

We want to remind us all of the support and acknowledgement that is ours to harness for Biafra actualization. This reminder is necessary because we will not let the apparent disease of “short memory” afflicting everything and everyone tainted by Nigeria, to infect us, too; never! We are Biafrans, not Nigerians. There is also the matter of a small fraction of Biafrans who make a living from the keeping alive of moribund Nigeria; these are powerful, influential and or wealthy persons made so, and protected, by corrupt Nigeria. This group goes around and overboard still trying to appease evil Nigeria (so they can retain their status) by claiming that Biafra actualization efforts are only a pressure point to force Nigeria to make itself better and to allow Biafrans stay in Nigeria as equal citizens of Nigeria: —utter nonsense. We want to remind us all that such a group and their misconceptions have no support at all among Biafran peoples.

1.    Support from our Masses.

Of course, our greatest and most enduring support is from the peoples of Biafra themselves. Not surprising, but bears emphasizing, that it is “…we, the people…” who have mandated Biafra actualization. Biafran Peoples want Biafra: they fully support Biafra and are committed to the actualization of Biafra.

In demonstration of such support, when MASSOB (Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra), the home-based non-violent organization leading the charge for Biafra actualization, calls for mass action and civil disobedience, we get compliance from almost all our peoples. Recall:

·         August 26 2004: MASSOB called for a mass sit-in exercise and it was carried out by an overwhelming majority of our people, causing great consternation and panic in Nigeria—a great successful effort by our people demonstrating our unity of purpose, our determination and our collective power.

·         A repeat demonstration on December 5 and 6, 2005 called by MASSOB was successful, despite the heavy use of Nigeria’s armed agents and State propaganda to attempt to disrupt the civil disobedience exercise, this time around. (incidentally, the leaders of US-based WIC, an organization typifying the efulefu Biafran group mentioned earlier, chose to travel from the US and pay an official visit and hold a meeting with Obasanjo during this time, on a day that our masses were staying home as a form of civil protest. Since then, WIC has irredeemably lost credibility and support, being reviled by our people today.)

·         Successful boycott of 2006 Nigeria’s rigged Census, called for by MASSOB. Nigeria had to postpone the Census once because of the boycott threat; when it conducted the Census, the boycott was carried out and its effect were real.

·         Successful boycott of the 2007 Nigeria’s elections, when MASSOB refused to participate on principle, because we are Biafrans, not Nigerians, and as such, should have nothing to do with Nigeria’s elections.

·         Compare such success with our equally spectacular success during the 2003 Nigeria’s elections when pro-Biafran groups requested that our peoples participate, but only in the name of Biafra and for the sake of demonstrating Biafra‘s collective power, by casting Unity and Solidarity vote for APGA. Our people went out, and in the name of Biafra and for the sake of Biafra, handed APGA a resounding, unanimous victory in all of Biafraland. A stunned Nigeria was to go all out to rig the 2003 election results in order to usurp power from the truly elected, which was not surprising, but predictable for Nigeria.

While every act of support mentioned earlier stands on its own but yet adds up with others for more than their sum, the introduction of the Biafran Currency in 2005 by MASSOB, the immediate and enthusiastic support for it, and its swift adoption as legal tender, demonstrates the unflagging and unfathomable support of our peoples for Biafra in ways unmatched by any other action. So thoroughly accepted and supported was the Biafran Currency that it became Regional Legal Tender—across most of West Africa. So alarmed was Nigeria that it sent out armed forces to search, arrest, imprison, kill and execute anyone, especially Biafrans, caught with Biafra money, in an official policy published publicly. No one but Nigeria knows how much Nigeria twisted the arms of the West African countries where Biafra Currency was in use then, demanding the criminalization of trade in Biafra currency. This is how far-reaching our support for Biafra actualization from our people can go.

So, do not forget!

2.    Universal Support.

On September 13 2007, the United Nations Organization passed UN General Assembly Resolution A/61/295 overwhelmingly, supporting the right of Self Determination for Ethnic Nations. True, this resolution is non-binding, but it is still a Moral and Political support and victory for all oppressed nations seeking to get out from under the ugly blob of wicked States tormenting them, much as Biafra is being tormented by Nigeria. No one in the world today can act surprised any more that a nation is seeking Self Determination; no one and no State in the world can act like it is a crime for a nation to seek Self determination today. Even the handful of States who voted against the Resolution or abstained from voting understand that it is Morally right, Politically right, and a Human right for a nation of people or peoples to choose to wrest its own political destiny from the hands of the subtending State and manage its own affairs as a Sovereign and Independent State. Long before this, Biafra in 1967 had chosen this path. In 1999, MASSOB reactivated this pathway; today, we are full steam pursuing Self Determination leading to Independence for the Sovereign Nation of Biafra. And we have world support formalized as the UN Resolution on our side.

Once again, do not forget. We are on the right track: our cause is correct.

Fellow Biafrans, regarding the unjustifiable stance of Nigeria against our people of MASSOB—Ralph Uwazurike, the MASSOB leader, Uchenna Madu and other officials of MASSOB whom Nigeria is holding unjustly in its jails, it is clear that this is a case of Biblical Pharaoh’s Egypt and the People of Israel. Nigeria cannot hold us as slaves in Nigeria, no matter what means it employs, any more than Pharaoh could hold Israel back as slaves in Egypt. Nigeria may not read history or the Bible and may not understand either, but what is, is. Biafra is.

Biafra alive! Because it is God Who makes it so.

That’s the News Analysis for the week. Thank you.
