This is the News Analysis segment of the Voice of Biafra International (VOBI) broadcasts
For September 21 2007
You have heard the news; now, the analysis…
Fellow Biafrans:
Several times, we reminded you that what we are doing is right: actively seeking Biafra actualization, the fulfillment and practice of our complete Independence from Nigeria, and the full exercise of our Sovereignty, being a tangible and practical expression of our individual and collective right to choose, and right to freedom and liberty. We have reminded you that our actions and goals as such are supported by the fact of God-given Right. We have also reminded you that it is a basic Human Right—the right to be free to choose; and the right to be free; as well as being an Internationally recognized Right.
On September 13, 2007, The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a Resolution supporting the right of a people to Self Determination (that is, determine, own and control their own development and political status); and the right of indigenous Nations to own, control and manage their own territory and natural resources. The UN had been working on this for over twenty years or so. This news was made public this past week.
With this, you can see that what we have been telling you is correct. The UN supports the right to Self Determination. The UN supports the right of Indigenous Nations to have control over their own lives and their own territory, including natural resources. Biafra has a right to Self Determination—an exercisable right supported by the UN. Biafra, as a Nation of indigenous peoples, has a right to ownership, control and management of our own territory, including its integrity and its natural resources: the UN supports such right. This, too, is an exercisable right.
Fellow Biafrans, you must then understand that you—we—are correct in seizing the opportunity to identify our rights to Self Determination and territorial control, and to exercise such rights: a huge majority of the World understands this and supports it. That’s what we have been pointing out to you all along: now, you can know that for yourself.
Yes, these Rights are also of source Divine. God created us as a people, and in God’s own Wisdom, makes us and others ever so unique, and places us in different sections of His proverbial “Garden.” God gave and gives us—every single one of us and every people—Freedom and Liberty as a Right, by His own Grace and Fiat. Go through your own mind: is this not so—is it not so that it is God who grants us Freedom and Liberty, and the Rights thereto? We are correct in reminding you that it is your sole business to reclaim your God-given Right and exercise it wherever and whenever it is trampled or seized or there is an attempt to nullify such rights.
And, yes: these are also Moral Rights, from two standpoints. First, it is part of basic Human “mores”—that is, tradition and way of life—to be free and have liberty from oppression and enslavement: which makes it a basic moral Human Right. Second, from the standpoint of justice and ethics (“morality,”), it is only proper that human beings have their freedom and liberty, and act to claim and exercise such rights. Here again, we are correct to remind you that the pursuit of Self Determination for Biafra and the control of our territory, which is the physical manifestation of our Liberty and Freedom, is right—it is the right thing to do.
Fellow Biafrans, as you can all see, we are correct in pursuing Biafra actualization: first, we are correct in the eyes of God Himself; then, we are also correct in the eyes of Man—Humanity; we are correct even “in the eyes of Caesar”—representing the politics of the world-collective, the UN. Just as important, we are correct in our own selves, under the personal scrutiny of our own individual consciences, as well as in the eyes of our collective conscience. Always remember this, then. Always act on it—always!
What Nigeria has done to us will make anyone shed tears for weeks on end. Nigeria committing Genocide against Biafra is well documented. Such process of unconscionable wanton killing by Nigeria of Biafrans continues today. Nigeria dispossessing our people—the Biafran peoples—is a reality we all live with: brazen exploitation of our resources accompanied by deliberate resource and wealth transfer and drain; and malicious destruction of our property. Corruption of our people, destruction of our culture, “dumbing down” of our people, and consignment of our people to a hopeless, helpless status, are all Nigeria’s deliberate and pernicious acts against our people. Denial of access to education, health and job opportunities; and policy-driven denial of equal access and equal opportunity are other ongoing practices of Nigeria against our people. And, there is every indication that such practices are all that Nigeria has in store for us—now, as in the past, and in the future. Even a lump of rock, lifeless and insensate, will not fail to react to these inhumane and humiliating conditions. That’s why we must act—why we act, because, tears and all, we still have to do something, and that’s precisely what we are doing.
Fellow Biafrans: the UN will not fight our battles for us, even though it supports the principles fuelling our drive. That effort is left to us, and to us alone. Do, understand this: the UN is not obligated to come to our aid nor is it equipped / inclined to do so; we do not expect it to, either. It is sufficient that the UN recognizes that it is our right to seek Self Determination and the control of our territory, and that the UN supports such a right for us and for any other people for that matter. The rest is up to us—really.
This is precisely why Ralph Uwazurike, the leader of MASSOB, Uchenna Madu, the Information Director of MASSOB, other MASSOB officers and MASSOB rank-and-file membership, are devoting every ounce of their energy to actualizing Biafra, not waiting for the UN or the rest of the world, and not counting the cost, be it death or jail. We direct the leaders of Nigeria to release forthwith these brethren of ours from Nigeria’s dungeons called jails—unconditionally. Because, unjustly holding our MASSOB people in jail does not prove anything, except Nigeria’s unjustifiable ongoing unquenchable wickedness against our people, a predictable but unconscionable modus operandus for Nigeria, validating, once again, our points. Besides, there are many more of our people methodically doing what MASSOB is doing, within and outside of pro-Biafran groups, with as much resolve and tenacity, fully determined and unwaveringly committed to Biafra actualization. Ironically, we can be grateful to Nigeria for this: thank you, Nigeria, for proving and confirming that Biafra is our only sane choice.
Biafra alive! Because it is God Who makes it so.
That’s the News Analysis for the week. Thank you.
