This is the News Analysis segment of the Voice of Biafra International (VOBI) broadcasts

For February 3rd, 2007

You have heard the news; now, the analysis…

Fellow Biafrans:

When Atiku revealed that Obasanjo had recently secretly spent $2 Billion buying military equipment to attack and control the Niger Delta area, we could have responded, “…told you so!...” But, think about it for a moment. Obasanjo is using the revenues from Delta Oil to go out and buy munitions and military hardware which he intends to use to kill more Delta and Biafran people and to destroy more Delta and Biafran land. The rest of the Oil revenue he has already used to enrich himself, his family and friends; to build infrastructure for himself and for his people, and for Northern Nigeria, the latter action extending the known parasitic and exploitative deeds and policies of previous Nigeria’s leaders who happen to be Northern Nigeria’s military men.

Recall that it is the same Obasanjo who earlier told the Delta that he and Nigeria were protecting the Oil for the Delta against the Igbo and against Biafra—that that is the reason that he and Nigeria waged a genocidal war against Biafra, of which the Delta are an integral part. Such lies! Recall it is the same Obasanjo who went and feigned humility to the aggrieved, deprived and now awakening Delta people: “…allow me [Obasanjo] to manage the Oil…” Such a liar! Is it not the same Obasanjo who of recent has been blaming the foreign Oil Companies operating in the Delta for the woes and “curse of Oil” victimizing the Delta people and their land, all but denying any responsibility on his part and on the part of Nigeria, for his and Nigeria’s own exploitative Oil Policies and role designed deliberately to dispossess and destroy the Delta people and their land? Since 1999 and until a couple of years ago, who was Nigeria’s Oil Minister? Even counting the last few months, who is the de facto Oil Minister of Nigeria? Obasanjo: yes, Obasanjo doubles as Nigeria’s Oil Minister.

Let us ask the most obvious question:

Just what exactly is the crime of Niger Delta that Obasanjo should spend $2 Billion building up a Nigeria military force to wipe out the people and destroy their land while preserving and taking over the Oil wells?

Obasanjo and Nigeria have prepared to go out and annihilate the Delta people and raze their settlements and land because the Delta people, having lived in abject poverty and utter neglect for over 50 years on their devitalized land desecrated and destroyed by oil exploration and drilling activities by Nigeria and its foreign agents, are now crying out. The Delta people are crying out asking why the Oil on their land has been used to destroy them. The Delta people are crying out asking why the Oil on their land has been spirited away to provide infrastructure and massive re-engineering programs for the sustenance and improvement of Northern and Western Nigeria. The Delta people are crying out asking what benefit they have ever gained from the fact and existence of their own Oil resources.

For crying out thus in the face of such exploitation and colonialism, the Delta now face Obasanjo and Nigeria’s military onslaught, slaughter and destruction—in this, the year, 2007!? Thus, if Obasanjo and Nigeria have their way, the Delta will be silenced once and for all by the might of Obasanjo and Nigeria’s Military, best known for their “valor”—only when pitched against unarmed civilians. Just for crying out against obvious injustice... Where is Justice? Where is Sensitivity? Where is Humanity—Humanness? The World: are you listening, and witnessing? we ask.

What Obasanjo and Nigeria are doing against the Delta is an extension of the war against Biafra, which has never really stopped as far as Obasanjo and Nigeria are concerned, because Biafra still stands; Biafra still has major and abundant resources—human resources and natural resources; Biafra has not lost its potency, and Biafra is here to stay. These are properties and qualities and attributes of Biafra which have eluded Nigeria.

Biafra is in complete solidarity with our Delta people. We shall resist Obasanjo and Nigeria. They will fail, like they have been since 1966. Brazen stealing of Delta Oil has not helped Nigeria all these years: it will not—not now, not in the future. Attempts at confiscating and transferring Biafra’s resources to Nigeria, specifically, to Northern and Western Nigeria, by Obasanjo and Nigeria since 1970 has not helped Nigeria at all: Nigeria continues in freefall, waiting for the inevitable “splat” to punctuate its misery-generating existence.

To those who still choose to remain deceived by Obasanjo and Nigeria’s feint in their dealings with our people of Biafra, we encourage you to take a look in the mirror—not tomorrow, but today. Re-think, and join us as we actualize Biafra wherein we shall fulfill our collective and individual destiny. Biafra is the symbol of our own control of our own fate and our own land and its abundant resources. Biafra is the personification of that indomitable Spirit bestowed on us by God our Creator.

Fellow Biafrans: we work together for the release of all Biafran activists jailed by Obasanjo and his government. We demand the release of Ralph Uwazurike, the Leader of MASSOB, and Uchenna Madu, other officials of MASSOB, and other members of MASSOB currently held unjustly in Nigeria’s jails. We demand the release of Asari Dokubo and any other Delta leaders and activists seeking and working for the emancipation and welfare of the people. We have a Moral Duty, individually and collectively, to take our peoples out of immoral Nigeria and out of the leprous, destructive reach of the likes of Obasanjo. Biafra is the complete answer and the full statement fulfilling this our reality.

Biafra alive! Because it is God Who makes it so.

That’s the News Analysis for the week.   Thank you.
