This is the News Analysis segment of the Voice of Biafra International (VOBI) broadcasts
For May 13th, 2006
You have heard the news; now, the analysis…
Fellow Biafrans:
When Chief Ralph Uwazurike, the leader of MASSOB (Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, a non-violent organization), was brought to court, naked, as reported to us and reported by several Nigerian newspapers, Obasanjo and Nigeria must have been happy with themselves, having accomplished their goal of humiliating Uwazurike. We know and understand that the persons who are in charge of the MASSOB prisoners take “orders from above,’ which means, orders from Obasanjo and his office. Yes, they humiliated not just our brother and leader, our son and our father, our husband and friend, they also humiliated us all. Not just MASSOB, mind you, but the entire Igbo, the entire Biafra nation. We shall find a way or ways to deal with his humiliation, our humiliation.
Perhaps, Obasanjo and Nigeria are still celebrating. If they had any sense at all, they must realize that the whole world is enraged by the despicable nature of their act, by now; that they have been lumped together in a sub-category worse than that of Idi Amin and his Uganda, by all civilized nations. Obasanjo is now considered a mentally sick man stricken with Madness; and Nigeria, a really sick and mad country, because of this action. By this act, Obasanjo has proved to the world that he is sub-human—not fit to be called a human being. No one in the world would be comfortable with such a man being found anywhere in the company of other human beings. And, Nigeria added more validation to its placement in the worst position and in the last place among all countries of the world when it comes to respect for the rights of a human being. So, while Obasanjo and Nigeria think that they are humiliating us, which they are, the effect of the act on them is even worse than the humiliation handed to us. This act proves to the world that Nigeria is past barbarism; that Nigeria is much worse that even a crude jungle in every sense of the word.
Remember, Obasanjo calls himself a Christian—a born-again Christian, at that? And Nigeria calls itself a religious country, right? We know that even those who do not believe in God at all could not bring themselves so low as to treat a prisoner that way. Especially considering that Uwazurike and other MASSOB leaders and members in jail have done nothing wrong. They are only trying to get us out of the situation where we would continue to be forced to live under the control of Nigerian leaders such as this, and under Nigeria that is now like this, suffering such an act as mentioned above at the hands and mercy of such leaders and their so-called country, Nigeria. Would it not be considered a moral failing if, after experiencing, and being victimized by, this type of acts, we were to just continue with Nigeria and not seek what Uwazurike is seeking for us? It sure would be a serious moral depravity, and we would have to account for our delinquency in the presence of God. That is why Uwazurike and MASSOB are doing the right thing, as are our people, BF (Biafra Foundation), BAF (Biafra Actualization Forum), and other pro-Biafran organizations, because we know that we have to face our God someday, and we would have to explain how we spent our days here. As for Obasanjo, let him condemn and eternally damn his own self by this and other morally degrading acts against MASSOB and against our people.
What possibly could drive a man so mad as to order someone being held prisoner--unjustly in the first place—to be stripped naked and then, brought to be displayed in court as such? Nigerian prison and SSS wicked personnel would not engage in such an act in such a high profile case as Uwazurike’s, without orders from Obasanjo and his presidency. Do not forget that the UN Charter is quite explicit regarding the treatment of prisoners: acts aimed at humiliating a prisoner by his jailers contravene UN conventions. Obasanjo should know, but he was driven crazy by the support and boost that Biafra actualization is receiving in the world today as carried in the report which you just heard. The report is a communiqué from CWIS (Center for World Indigenous Studies) of April 22 2006 which specifies its support for Biafra, viz:
· advance the human rights of the Biafran people
· support the self-determination of the Biafran Nation
· support peaceful political transition to self-government… a right…guaranteed under the United Nations Charter and subsequent international instruments.
· include topics that may be beneficial to the Biafran Nation and her people
· place the concerns of the Biafran Nation high on the list of priorities for Global Exchange as a matter of international importance.
· recognizes the work of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the efforts of MASSOB's leaders to advance a non-violent and peaceful political transition of the political status of the Biafran Nation within the framework of international law
· recognizes the Biafran Foundation as the principle representative of the Biafran Nation external to the Country
· work closely with the Biafran Foundation members to advance a peaceful and non-violent path toward a new political future for the Biafran Nation
· recognizes the importance of gaining the release of MASSOB's leadership and the leadership of allied peoples from Nigerian prisons detained under charges that ignore fundamental human rights.
· support all proper efforts to gain release of improperly imprisoned Biafran and allied people leadership
· seek to apply indigenous knowledge, research and education for the benefit of wider public understanding of the situation in Biafra.
CWIS also sent letters to selected International diplomatic agencies to the same effect. We believe that the news of the above—great for us!—its implications and its effect, got Obasanjo so riled up that he lost control and gave orders to humiliate Uwazurike in an act of vindictiveness. No matter: we are holding Obasanjo responsible for this specific act, and all other acts against MASSOBians whom he sent to jail. We also use this opportunity to ask Obasanjo to release Ralph Uwazurike and the rest of our MASSOB brethren.
We have heard of a so-called Igbo vigilante group in Onitsha killing MASSOB members. Oh God, so help them! because there will be nowhere for them to hide when we finally catch up with them. We know who they are; and we know who is sponsoring them. Unless they will all move or run to Abuja to live there forever, as long as they are in Igboland-Biafraland, we shall find them and get a judicial trial and conviction against them for the murder of MASSOB members. The wicked, bloodthirsty fools and murderers do not realize that this could happen any time now.
Fellow Biafrans: our Chi has planned it so that “all things will work together for our good.” While we grieve and continue protest-action regarding this latest mistreatment of Uwazurike and the continued imprisonment of our people without bail, we must take solace in the fact that God is in charge of everything and has not lost control;: God sees all and is not blind, and God knows all, and is not ignorant of our plight; and His plan has to be beneficial for us.
Biafra alive! because God makes it so.
That’s the News Analysis for the week. Thank you.
