This is the News Analysis segment of the Voice of Biafra International (VOBI) broadcasts

For May 6th, 2006

You have heard the news; now, the analysis…

Fellow Biafrans:

The outcome of bail application hearing scheduled for yesterday for Ralph Uwazurike, the leader of our MASSOB non-violent organization, Uchenna Madu, MASSOB Director of Information, Uche Okwukwu, an attorney for MASSOB; other leaders of MASSOB; and other members of MASSOB who have been languishing in Nigerian jails where they are unjustly being imprisoned, was not known to us as of the time of going to broadcast. We continue to insist that these men must be released unconditionally, because in a badly functioning so-called country where the polity is being overheated by the deliberate actions of General Obasanjo himself and his supporters, in clear violation of the constitution and laws of Nigeria, in complete desecration of every moral tenet known to the human race and in arrogant abuse of all civic rules and etiquette, there can be no reason to imprison MASSOB leadership and membership and charge them with Treason. If there is Treason being committed against Nigeria, it is General Obasanjo himself, his political party, PDP and his group of supporters and enforcers who are guilty of that: everyone in Nigeria today knows that. The MASSOB agenda calls for a non-violent, negotiated restructuring of Nigeria for a viable and permanent solution, resulting in the Independence and recognition of the Sovereignty of Biafra, allowing for different nations to chart their own respective national courses in life, rather than continue the ongoing dysfunction and woeful failure of Nigeria with attendant retardation, humiliation, persecution, suffering and death for Biafrans.

This non-violent agenda for self determination for Biafra engaged in by Ralph Uwazurike, MASSOB and Biafra Foundation (BF) and other pro-Biafran organizations is fully supported by our people who have shown by their responses to de facto referendum-type challenges that they want Biafra above everything else and are willing to pay any price for this choice of Biafra. A Nation of people has every right to determine if and when to engage in self determination exercise, and every right to choose the desired outcome of such an exercise. This can never constitute Treason. Especially when one considers the type of ongoing selective despoliation of Biafran culture and traditions (even Igbo language), resources and property by Nigeria; and the mistreatment, exploitation, repression, oppression, persecution, and humiliation of Biafrans in Nigeria by Nigeria. Especially knowing that this is a deliberate and public Nigeria State Policy to so abuse Biafrans. Thus, Ralph Uwazurike and MASSOB, especially those imprisoned and or injured or killed by Nigeria for the reason  of Biafra self determination exercises; BF and other pro-Biafran groups, are our heroes.  By the same measure, we regard—individually and collectively—our people who staunchly support MASSOB and its leadership and BF in this struggle, a people who are clearly and unflinchingly focused on what they want—Biafra, as true heroes. If Obasanjo considers himself a Christian as he often pronounces, he ought to release these men from his jails right away. The God Whom he purports to worship does not condone anyone holding the rest of God’s creation captive, or depriving God’s children of their God-given freedom and liberty. To this same God we swear an oath that we shall never allow any human being or principalities or anything else take away from us that which He, God, gave us. Never!

Fellow Biafrans, we encourage you all to stay the course and show stamina. The road is neither smooth nor short—that, we must leave in God’s hands while doing our very best on our part, including at the same time raising supplications to God to shorten the time and allow us our goal—His goal for us—Biafra, sooner than later. Do not despair, but work steadily for our ultimate liberation; walk steadily on the path to our certain redemption and freedom. If you have become fainthearted, refreshen yourself by seeking the face of God, and then, resuming the struggle at full speed ahead. Remember: there is really only one thing on our mind—the only goal: Biafra! So, come hell or high-water, torture or fatigue, impatience or disappointment, temptations or darkness, life or even death: come any condition or situation at all, it really makes no difference: we continue until we get Biafra. There is another reason, a very practical one why we do this: the alternative—being condemned to live in Nigeria as Nigerians for ever—is inconceivable: it reminds one of the punishment of everlasting Hell, in Hell.

In that state of mind of dedication to Biafra actualization, we will be able to recognize the folly of those Biafrans who belong to the Nigerian political class and Elite Clubs both at home and in Diaspora, as they act confused and conflicted, never really knowing what they want, reacting as opportunists to every shadow of false glitter from Nigeria’s table, essentially providing entertainment for Obasanjo and Nigeria who are having such a good time laughing at them, mocking them. We, on our part, by our focus and patience, by our dedication and diligence, shall prove them all wrong when we get Biafra.

Therefore, do not be worried or intimidated by all the persons who are running around in Nigeria today supporting one corrupt plot or another, or fighting against one evil scheme or the other, all the while themselves motivated by corrupt incentives, and their intended results also corrupt and evil. God has hardened their hearts, just as He hardened Pharaoh’s heart right before the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt. So, do not get excited by what Nigeria and Nigerians are doing or not doing: we are under God’s dispensation, and that divine dispensation is God’s Biafra Plan.  We will never join Nigeria in her machinations and frenzied nefarious activity. If Nigeria survives to hold an election in 2007, we will not participate. If Nigeria survives into 2007 and there are no elections, we still won’t participate in Nigeria either. Since 1999, and increasingly since 2003, you, our people, have tasted what it means and what it is like to have so-called political leaders whom you did not vote into office, and who run a government which does not concern itself with the “governed” people. You all know that the politicians and their government have not made any positive difference in your lives, but instead, continue to contribute to your on-going suffering, where your suffering is such that you don’t even bother any more what the source of additional burden such as the above is. You know exactly how it is when there is a complete divide—really wide and really deep—between the politicians and the people, each group completely oblivious to the other; each group functioning independently and without concern for, or sensitivity to, the other. If that becomes necessary, that’s what it is going to be like if Nigeria survives into 2007; our people will be working on a parallel governance then. So, let’s all get ready: we are thus mapping out the road ahead, and God will guide us as He has all the time.

Biafra alive! because God makes it so.

That’s the News Analysis for the week.   Thank you.
