This is the News Analysis segment of the Voice of Biafra International broadcasts
For September 18th, 2004
You have heard the news; now, the analysis…
“My peoples and my nations shall not be sacrificed for the sake of preserving a worthless idea called Nigeria.” So speaketh the Lord. And so it is.
“The peoples and their nations must live and thrive, though the name and concept of Nigeria die. The peoples and their nations must not and will not be allowed to perish just to save a dying Nigeria.” So says the Lord.
Fellow Biafrans: Trust the Word of God.
We have seen the arrogance and wickedness of Obasanjo and his SSS—the so-called State Security apparatus—now that it has been brought to light that they are after Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu and Ralph Uwazurike’s lives. SSS does not act without the knowledge, authority and authorization of General Obasanjo, so we know that it is Obasanjo who has ordered this criminal assassination action. Before we get to that, let us use this opportunity to show what a mockery of justice, a mockery of the legal profession and a mockery of the office of an Attorney-General the recent declaration by the so-called attorney general of Nigeria is—the declaration that MASSOB is to be charged with treason, and that MASSOB is a “rebel” group.
The right of self-determinism is a guaranteed right. When forty million people say that they want to be responsible for their own destiny, there is no law in the world which would brand them rebels, or their desires treasonable. Any lawyer should know that. Except a crooked lawyer or an ignorant one, or one who has abandoned sound professional judgment in favor of pleasing his employer-master who happens to be promulgating illegal rules and policies. Here, the crime itself is that his master is doing illegal things; the greater crime is that he, as a lawyer, is defending actions of his master—actions based on illegalities.
We advise the so-called attorney-general of Nigeria to try his best to act like a professional, now that the whole world is watching him. If he is looking for treason, why did it take a lay citizen to remind him that Zamfara has been acting as a State that is independent of Nigeria? He did not even know this much—what everyone else already knows (or was he pretending not to know?). Why does he not understand that the supplantation of the Nigerian Constitution by Sharia in the Muslim Northern States has been going on since General Obasanjo came to power? Has he charged anyone with treason for thus making Sharia the Supreme (and only) law in the Muslim Northern States, where they don’t even bother to recognize the laws of Nigeria? Where was he when the North stopped recognizing the rights of Nigerian citizenship of other peoples for the mere reason that such others are not Muslim Northerners? Is that not treason enough?
Fellow Biafrans: this is what we have been telling you, and we are glad we don’t have to tell you any more—you already know. All we have to do now is to remind you, in case you should get lulled into the illusion that anyone else in Nigeria is ever going to play fair with you Biafrans, as long as you are forced to remain in Nigeria. It is for this reason that you should throw out any advice that counsels you to continue to stay in Nigeria no matter what the circumstances are. And while at it, you should now throw out such a counselor from among Oha, too, because he or she is obviously deluded, if not crazy, even if paid by Obasanjo and by other tormentors of Biafra, to render such a counsel. Thus, we remind you that in all aspects of life, living and suffering in one-Nigeria, as a Biafran, you will always be singled out and cheated by Nigeria, always be maltreated, always be oppressed, always be denied. And, you will always be singled out to be harassed with a different set of unjust laws, or an illegal interpretation of the law, with the sole intent of bringing up trumped-up charges against you and penalizing you unjustly, with unlawful detention, unlawful imprisonment, and unconscionable “extra-judicial” killing. This is the lot of any Biafran residing in Nigeria today, and it will continue, as long as Biafrans allow themselves to stay in one-Nigeria. Fortunately, we Biafrans, no matter what our flaws may be, are not stupid. We have decided unequivocally and irrevocably to do the correct thing, which is to actualize a sovereign Biafra, independent of Nigeria. On August 26, you all affirmed this decision.
Predictably, General Obasanjo, who prides himself on being the “killer of Biafra” does not want to hear about Biafra or see Biafra still waxing strong. As they say, “...the news of the demise [of Biafra] were greatly exaggerated...” The fact is that Biafra is here to stay. Before Obasanjo, Biafra is. In spite of Obasanjo, Biafra is. Well after Obasanjo, Biafra still is. If Obasanjo (and anyone else for that matter) does not want to get used to the fact of Biafra-alive, that’s his / her / their problem. And we are not even going to try to dignify Atiku’s recent senseless statement about Biafra and his admonition to the Nigerian press to return to their previous government-induced policy of not reporting anything about Biafra. Save, of course to say that Atiku only managed to embarrass himself—all by himself—by showing his ignorance of what Freedom of the Press and Democracy really mean (and this man wants to run for the Presidency of Nigeria, and could actually win if he does more rigging of the elections than others do, in 2007? We shudder!). In case there are any doubts, we want to make sure that whatever else his blinded perception is not telling him, Atiku needs to be reminded that Biafra is one-third the size of Nigeria by population; Biafrans form the largest population in every State in Nigeria right after the indigenes of the State; and Biafra contributes 99% of the total revenues accruing to Nigeria, and over 80% of useful, usable and functional human resources of Nigeria. As such, whatever affects Biafrans should be in the news daily, because whatever affects Biafra impacts Nigeria.
It is this cabal of Obasanjo, Atiku and their minions who now want to eliminate Dim Ojukwu and Ralph Uwazurike, our Biafran leaders by assassinating them, using the feared, heartless, criminal Nigerian SSS. That any civilized country (never mind democracy), in this day and age, should harbor, utilize and tolerate such operatives as SSS speaks volumes of her state of medieval primitivism, the state of murderous dictatorship and the state of timidity of the hapless peoples unfortunate enough to live and suffer therein. Speaking of which, what Attorney General of any country would fail to point out that a unit such as Nigeria’s SSS—an obvious death squad—is unlawful, its activities criminal and its sponsors murderers? Where else in the world today would you find a murderous unit so brazen and so arrogant as to publicly send a one-way ticket to its victim to come for a visit from which the victim obviously will not return? And where in the world today would civil disobedience not erupt in protestation of such heinous crime by the government?
Fellow Biafrans: Dim Ojukwu has done the wise thing by not voluntarily responding to the invitation by the SSS; we hope and trust that he will refuse to go there under any circumstances. We also want you to be ready: your showing support for Ojukwu and Uwazurike at this stage is welcome and commendable. And, we must be ready to do much more than anyone can know, at this time, in case anything happens to either man at the hands of Nigeria. We have a moral obligation to challenge and resist this sort of thing; but our obligation is even greater to DEFEAT THIS SORT OF THING; and, so we must; so we shall! Be ready!
We have seen the reasons given by SSS and find them hypocritical and farcical and ludicrous. No organization can hide under the excuse of State or National Security to commit so many crimes such as the SSS has, including the murder and the deprivation of human and civil rights. The right of nation-based self-determinism is a basic human right. It is a higher law; and a moral duty and obligation to protect this right, regardless of the instrument of a dictatorship to sabotage this Divine and Natural right. In due course, the members of Nigeria SSS will face the world court to account for their crimes against humanity: just like all other similar criminals.
Fellow Biafrans, we should not forget that even as we speak, the killing, torture, detention and imprisonment of MASSOB members is still going on, everyday. We have not forgotten about them; we shall never forget about them. All those responsible shall be held accountable: must!
It is God’ pleasure to create Biafra and Biafrans and to sustain and uphold them in His Divine Grace.
Biafra alive! Do your part! God is doing His!
That’s the news analysis for the week. Thank you.
God bless and keep Biafra, and you, until our next broadcast. Voice of Biafra International (VOBI) broadcast continues (http://www.biafraland.com/vobi.htm) with the summary of the News Analysis in Igbo language.
