August 26 2004

"This changes everything...!"

With the above announcement, the fortunes of Biafra would be reversed for the better in one day, on that memorable day of August 26, Thursday, in the year, 2004.

"...On August 26, 2004, the Igbo, in its Biafran agenda, finally reminded Nigeria why the Igbo are so envied and so feared. After all, is it not such fear that drives the open and determined anti-Igbo and anti-Biafran policies of Nigeria today? August 26 reminded everyone that the Igbo and all Biafrans can act as one, in unity, regardless of the penalty, with decisive and stunning, if not devastating, effectiveness.

On August 26, Biafrans gave notice to Nigeria that Biafrans want Biafra, not Nigeria. Biafrans reminded Nigeria that they are Biafrans, not Nigerians. Biafrans on that day sent a clear message to Nigeria that Biafrans will do whatever is necessary, whenever called upon, to assert their Biafra-ness. In a dramatic way, Biafrans corrected Nigerians in their previous erroneous thinking by making it clear that it is only Biafrans who are in control of the destiny of Biafra. It is the same message that Biafra sent out to the world at large on and by August 26.

August 26 showed who is not in charge in Biafraland: no, the Nigerian-PDP appointed state-puppet governors are not in charge, nor are their effete administrations. The Nigerian Police has committed every crime imaginable against MASSOB and against all Biafrans while occupying Biafraland: yes, they occupy Biafraland by force, but the Nigerian Police is not in charge of Biafra and not in charge in Biafra.

August 26 was functionally a referendum. Igbo people and other Biafrans said that they support MASSOB and their leadership and Ralph Uwazurike as their leader. Igbo people and other Biafrans adopt and support the non-violent agenda of Biafra actualization being pursued by MASSOB on their behalf. All Biafrans are ready to act in unison to actualize Biafra.

August 26 is eternal. The events of that day and the implications thereof have become etched in the spirit, the soul, the psyche and the persona of the Biafra Nation and its Biafran people. Everyday in the life of a Biafran is now August 26.

2004 has in fact proved to be the year of the rediscovery of the Biafra identity. Judging by August 26, Biafrans surprised even themselves by how deep they are rooted in "Biafranism," and how committed they are to actualizing Biafra..."

"...In the days leading to, and just prior to, August 26, the Nigerian Police flooded Biafraland with armed personnel and propaganda, ordering people not to obey the sit-at-home call. A few state governors in Biafraland lent their voice, asking the citizens not to comply with the sit-in. Some one-Nigerian Igbo persons even used the argument that such an action could scuttle the chances of the Presidency of Nigeria going to an Igbo come 2007. Others called MASSOB a "fringe" organization, and questioned the qualifications of Ralph Uwazurike to lead the Igbo in such an act.

Then, August 26 came around, and what a stunning victory for MASSOB/BLF, its leadership, Ralph Uwazurike, and most of all, for all Igbo and Biafrans. On that day, compliance with the stay-at-home civil disobedience act was complete--yes, total--in all of  Biafraland. The entire region was shut down. In Lagos and many major cities of Northern Nigeria where Igbo-Biafrans provide commercial and other services, business was reported paralyzed, almost crippled. No one, perhaps, not even Ralph Uwazurike himself, had anticipated the completeness of the response..."

SALUTE TO BIAFRANS, MASSOB AND ITS LEADERSHIP.

On Thursday August 26 2004, Biafrans and Biafran sympathizers stayed in their homes to protest the forced Islamization and occupation of Biafra by Nigeria and the injustice and enslavement of Biafrans by Nigerian governments. By this action Biafrans also clearly served notice to the world that they are ready to establish the Sovereign Independent State of Biafra. The stay-at-home protest called by the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) was hugely successful.

Reports reaching us indicate that in all the Provinces of Biafra from Agbor, to Asaba, Aba, Owerri, Umuahia, Orlu, Ikot Ekpene, Uyo, Eket, Ogoja, Calabar, Enugu, Nsukka, Oji River, Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Okigwe, Anang, Abakaliki, Yenagoa, Warri, Ahoada, Ugheli, Degema to Port Harcourt, economic, social and civic activities were completely shut down. Markets, banks, government offices, courts, transport companies and private businesses were completely shut down in solidarity with and obedience to the stay-at-home protest called by MASSOB. Benin, Lagos, Makurdi, Jos, Yola, and several other towns were paralyzed as Biafrans living in those places also shut down their businesses.

Biafrans and Biafran sympathizers in Cotonu, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, United States, Holland, England, Spain, Germany, and Australia and several other countries and cities of the world participated in different ways.

It is obvious from the spread of this protest action that all the peoples of Biafra (Anang, Efik, Ibibio, Igbo, Ijaw, and Ekoi etc) participated fully in this protest action. This was not a protest by the Igbo alone. It was a protest successfully carried out by all Biafrans the world over.

Biafra Foundation congratulates the entire peoples of Biafra, for the massive and unalloyed obedience to this protest action called by MASSOB and their ringing endorsement of MASSOB leadership and MASSOB program for Biafra. Biafra Foundation also congratulates MASSOB and especially Chief Ralph Uwazurike and the leadership of MASSOB for their untiring efforts in mobilizing the people and tirelessly pushing the Biafran Actualization Program. There must be no doubt in anyone’s mind about what the people of Biafra want and who their leaders are.

Kicking ones fear of the oppressor is the primary step in the process of liberating oneself from the clutches of oppression and slavery. Now that Biafrans have finally kicked the fear of the oppressor the path to freedom is clear and the establishment of the Sovereign Independent Republic of Biafra is on hand.

Biafra Foundation challenges every single Biafran to remain fearless, resolute, unyielding and uncompromising in the fight for the liberation of our homeland, Biafra. Now that we all have collectively put our shoulders to the wheel, there must be no going back, no back sliding, and no compromising. Though the road is rough and far, yet all hands must be on deck till Biafra is achieved. It is our right, it is our duty, and it is our destiny. Let us like one people move on to the Promised Land that God in his infinite wisdom and mercy has given to us. Arise Oh great people of Biafra and march on till victory is achieved. May God continue to guide out efforts!

Board of Directors

Biafra Foundation.

REPORT FROM YOLA ADAMAWA STATE

Dear Sir,
Well Done Biafran compatriots the Stay-At-Home order was a huge success generally. We in Yola complied fully with the order more especially traders along Mohammed Mustapha way and some civil servants.Though the Yola main market did not close because most of the traders are indigines who are largely Fudalists. However most of the Biafran indigens in the Yola main Market observed the stay at home order.
We are delighted on the action so that the Hausa-Fulani-Yoruba Fudalists will know that Biafrans cannot always be bought with money.
Long Live The Christian Democratic Republic Of Biafra.
God Bless You All
Respectfully Yours

A very big weldone to all Biafran. The success was unbelievable.
This has thought them not to toy with us. They never believed that UMU IGBO will answer to that clarion call.
CUDOS to each an every one of us.
Those same traders that some people call names were the same ones that made our 26th a big success. That tells us that what they the traders really need is a leader they will all look up, not one that will betray them at the end. Am sure they are finding that in MASSOB.
Now they the nigerian government know that we are dead serious and there is no stopping us.
Weldone my people.
God bless Ala Igbo.

Well, I connected with Aba and it was a huge success for the stay-at-home protest. I had some dialogue with my in-laws  [in Benin] and it was a BIG deal. Everyone stayed at home even beyond the 4PM target! Cool!!!!

BF,

The protest was a success, reports reaching me show that the 3 big markets in Onitsha closed, all the markets in Aba and Enugu closed and transporters stayed at home(Aba recorded the heaviest millitary presence, Owerri stayed at home despite Udenwa and police threat, Obigbo stayed home - no market/transport, Port Harcourt was partial although there was no transport from Aba/Obigbo to PH.

Outside Biafraland: Lagos - the famous Alabba International market was closed for business, Ladikpo motor spare parts market closed too, Mushin and other places where Ndigbo trade closed shop.
Kaduna/Jos: Biafrans stayed home.

In all, there were no incidents, except an arrest of a MASSOB security guy at Obigbo and there was info that the youths in Onitsha defied police threat and drove round the town in cars carrying Biafran flags.

You will get mor news as they come.

This event forced the entire so called Nigerians to join, as the Easterners observed in totality. It was successful in observation and in compliance.

Subject: STAY- AT -HOME PROTEST,.........A HUGE SUCCESS IN LAGOS!

THE STAY- AT- HOME PROTEST RESULT.

The-stay-at-home protest was a huge success in Lagos
zone and beyond! The huge success was largely due to
the support of all IGBOS to the Biafra struggle for independence and the wider publicity we gave to the programme in Lagos state where the urge to go home to our fatherland is burning high.

All shops, market stalls and private businesses were
all closed down by their owners in obedience to the
clarion call to save Biafra land.

WE therefore, call for more of this type of strategy
in subsequent periods.
We are always loyal, working hard to actualize the
dream.

In Lagos, non Igbos were hailing the courage of the
GALLANT IGBOS AS MANY WISHED THEY WERE Igbos.
LONG LIVE BIAFRA
LONG KIVE IGBO RACE
LONG LIVE OUR FREEDOM FIGHTERS.
